Always choose enclosed transport
Bikes are too exposed for open trailers. All reputable motorcycle shipments move in enclosed trailers.
Use a carrier with proper equipment
Look for soft-tie strapping systems, motorcycle wheel chocks and rubber-padded tie-down points. Avoid carriers that ratchet-strap to handlebars.
Prep the bike before pickup
Clean it, document existing scratches and dings, remove loose accessories, drop fuel to about a quarter tank and disable alarms.
Provide the keys and document the odometer
Same as car shipping — the driver needs to roll the bike on and off the trailer.
Know your bike's value
High-value motorcycles may warrant additional insurance beyond the carrier's standard cargo coverage. Ask your agent about supplemental coverage.
Plan delivery logistics
Be available at delivery to inspect the bike against the bill of lading before the driver leaves.
